Program Description:

The Pediatric Multidisciplinary Musculoskeletal Oncology Conference is an interactive, interdisciplinary forum that serves to review all cases of musculoskeletal and related tumors and to strategize appropriate interdisciplinary plans of care.

Multidisciplinary care has been shown to improve outcomes.  This is a working meeting to review patient issues and make decisions about ongoing care.

The Multidisciplinary Solid Tumor Board reviews multiple complex patient cases each week.  This conference promotes collaboration among clinical providers to optimize selection of therapies for patients, based on mutual review of radiographic and pathologic material. Surgical, medical, radiology, and pathology providers have different educational backgrounds and biases which are reduced or eliminated by group review and consensus-building.

It is documented that care is superior when provided in a multi-disciplinary format. Appropriate treatment of solid tumors therefore involves a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis, review of response, and both initial and ongoing care planning. Development of care plans in this context promotes both improved outcomes and improved patient satisfaction.
