Weekly multidisciplinary conference focused on a variety of pediatric urology topics including pediatric incontinence, congenital urinary anomalies, spina bifida, differences in sex development. Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
- Describe the ways in which endocrine anomalies can result in pediatric urologic conditions. Identify the pathophysiology of congenital anomalies of the genital tract that result from disruption of endocrine pathways and how treatments can be focused at the level of disruption to improve patient health. Describe common psychosocial concerns associated with genital differences and how these can manifest in mental and behavioral health concerns in children and adolescents.
- Describe the natural history of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression in children with congenital renal dysplasia from urologic congenital malformations. Identify the role that nutrition, growth and development and puberty play in CKD progression. Recognize the complementary roles of nephrology and urology mangement in children with complex anomalies of the urinary tract.
- Identify and demonstrate independent mastery of a structured approach to scientific article review. Identify and state author's hypothesis and specific aims as well as any underlying bias or assumptions present in study design. Understand statistical methods and evaluate whether outcomes support or refute hypothesis as well as whether the outcomes are applicable to practice setting. Evaluate the quality of newly published articles and their applicability to patient care and outcomes.
