Program Description: 

Weekly multidisciplinary conference focused on a variety of pediatric urology topics including pediatric incontinence, congenital urinary anomalies, spina bifida, differences in sex development. Rotating modalities including didactic lectures, case-based presentations and journal clubs with frequent multidisciplinary collaboration from other specialties (i.e. pediatric endocrinology, pediatric surgery, pediatric nephrology, etc). Appropriate for pediatric subspecialists who provide care for children with simple and complex urologic anomalies.

Learning objectives: 

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Better understand pediatric medical traumatic stress which refers to a set of psychological and physiological responses of children and their families to pain, injury, serious illness, medical procedures, and invasive or frightening treatment experiences. Medical trauma may occur as a response to a single or multiple medical events.
  • Learn to rethink and consider what the pediatric patient might find stressful.
  • Learn to decrease patients' stress and anxiety which increases positive coping.
  • Learn about alternate ways to destress a patient in a clinical setting so pharmaceuticals are not needed.
