Program Description: 

This conference is intended to enhance the overall fund of knowledge required for the radiation oncologist to treat patients in all oncologic subspecialties and to inform the radiation oncologist on quality delivery of these technologies.

Learning objectives: 
Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
  • Describe changes in global gene expression and circulating blood cell populations associated with localized prostate and pelvic nodal irradiation.
  • Interpret systemic biological effects of localized radiation therapy using peripheral blood-based molecular and cellular biomarkers.
  • Evaluate the potential utility of radiation-induced changes in gene expression and blood cell composition for assessing normal tissue responses to radiation exposure.
  • Discuss the implications of systemic blood-based responses to localized radiotherapy for future translational and clinical research.
