The aging population, changes infederal law, and the growing cumulative economic burden of healthcare continue to change the structure of healthcare delivery and payment models.  Radiologists need to understand theses changes so that we can lead the evolving role of radiology, respond to regulatory requirements, and use evolving technologies to develop efficient new models of patient care.  Furthmore, development of recent technologies, in particular, digital breat tomosynthesis (DBT, improve cancer detection, change screening paradigms, and improve patient outcomes.  Radiologists need to integrate DBT into clinical practice.

Presenter:

  Bibb Allen Jr., MD, FACR
Dr. Allen is a diagnostic radiologist with the Birmingham Radiological Group and is in community practice at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. He is past chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors and currently ACR President. He has extensive experience in the socioeconomic issues of radiology as they relate to coding, the valuation of physician work and practice expense. He is a strong proponent of the ACR’s Imaging 3.0 initiative to ensure radiologists hold a key role in evolving health care delivery and payment models, as well as quality patient care. Dr. Allen earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He did his residency training at the University of Alabama Hospitals and the Baptist Health System in Birmingham, Alabama
and abdominal imaging fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He has been active with the ACR for 20 years and has served as a Councilor, member of the Council Steering Committee, Chair of the Carrier Advisory Committee (CAC) Network, ACR representative to the AMA/Specialty Society RVS Update Committee (the RUC) and Chair of the Commission on Economics. Dr. Allen has been a member of the ACR Board of Chancellors for the past ten years.

  Jennifer Bergin, MD
Jennifer Bergin, MD is the Medical Director of Breast Imaging Services at ProHealth Care in Waukesha, WI and a diagnostic radiologist with Radiology Waukesha, S.C.
Dr. Bergin was instrumental in bringing digital breast tomosynthesis to ProHealth Care in 2012, the first to use DBT in Wisconsin. She also led the development of a
radioactive seed localization program at ProHealth in 2014. She is an advocate for breast cancer screening access and coverage.

  Jill A. Hammersley, MD
Jill A. Hammersley, MD is a board certified breast imaging radiologist at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin Center for Diagnostic Imaging (CDI).  Dr. Hammersley also serves as an assistant professor of radiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

  Julie Sullivan, MD
Julie Sullivan, MD is a board certified radiologist specializing in Breast Imaging. She is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where she completed her residency and fellowship training.
