Inappropriate disciplinary actions in schools are costly for the district and for a child’s education.  Plus, such discipline is inequitably applied based on race/ethnicity.  How can mental health professionals provide guidance on fair and appropriate disciplinary practices?

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
  • Describe the research findings on impact and cost of disciplinary actions on students.
  • Discuss the empirical evidence for disproportionate disciplinary action on students of color.
  • Demonstrate how a disciplinary plan can include learning and growth objectives and avoid inequitable application of disciplinary actions.
