Medical College of Wisconsin Survivorship Symposium

This educational program will help all providers identify, diagnose, and treat common conditions that arise after cancer care. Survivors will be educated about post-cancer treatment side effects and therapies to address these side effects. Additionally, this symposium will allow collaboration and partnership between surgeons, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists and primary care providers to provide cancer patients routine survivorship care.

Target Audience

Primary Care Physicians, Survivors, Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, and Surgeons

Learning Objectives

  • If a patient develops memory problems after chemotherapy, describe common symptoms of “chemobrain” and possible ways to help patient scope and compensate.
  • For a patient who is experiencing Lymphedema,describe treatments available and know when to refer the patient to a specialist.
  • When patients require radiation as part of their cancer treatment plan, be able to list common long-term side effects and possible way to treat them.
  • For patients who have difficult transitioning from the cancer patient to the cancer survivor, list common symptoms and resources available to help patients.
  • After patient completes their cancer care,describe the best ways to restart physical activity.
