The Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Surgery 2024 Advances in Minimally Invasive General Surgery Symposium will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024. The symposium will take place at St. Norbert College in the FK Bemis Conference Center.

Target Audience

Physicians and APPs, including:

  • Surgeons (general surgeons, thoracic surgeons, surgical residents and fellows)
  • Gastroenterologists
  • Primary care providers
  • Advanced practice providers and other allied health professionals

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Cite the national recommendations for the management of achalasia, gastroparesis, and complex foregut complications. 
    Describe the surgical approach options and mesh repair options for hernias, with considerations for patient preference, cost-effectiveness, efficiency, outcomes, and evidence-based guidelines.
    Explain the concept of "failure to rescue" and its impact on patients and hospital systems and identify strategies to address it.
