
Virtual Opioid Rounds: A Multidisciplinary Approach
This course has been approved by the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board as meeting the requirements for the two-hour continuing education course on the responsible opioid prescribing guidelines per Med 13.03(3) of the Wisconsin Administrative Code. (Ref # MED-1077).
An access code is required for this course. The access code may be obtained from your department administrator or practice administrator.
Course completion for this current licensure cycle is October 25th, 2019.
There are six modules in this course.
- Acute Pediatric Pain 1.0 credits
- Addiction 0.50 credits
- Health Disparities 0.50 credits
- Infectious Disease 1.0 credits
- Palliative Care 1.0 credit
- Primary Care 0.50 credits
Learners are free to select the content most relevant to their clinical practice and must complete a minimum of 2 hours of content to meet the MEB requirement.
Target Audience
This course is designed for members of the MCW community - MCW Faculty, MCP, CSG, CMG, CP and Zablocki VA physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants with a current DEA certificate and who prescribe opioids for pain management.
Learning Objectives
- Describe appropriate patient assessment for pain management.
- Evaluate risks and potential benefits, as well as possible misuse of opioids.
- Monitor patients prescribed opioids for benefit and harm.
- Employ methods to counsel patients and caregivers about the safe use of ER/LA opioid analgesics, including proper storage and disposal.
- Safely discontinue opioids when there is too little benefit or too much risk and harm.
- Reduce health disparities in the management of pain.
