Program Description: 

WPA Grand Rounds series features a variety of topics in psychiatry. This virtual series occurs monthly on the last Thursday of the month from 12pm-1pm CST.

Learning objectives: 
  • Describe documented examples and proposed mechanisms by which AI chatbots may contribute to psychiatric harm, including reinforcement of psychotic delusions, inadequate crisis response, and the promotion of self-harm in vulnerable populations.
  • Evaluate the current evidence for AI-enabled tools used in suicide risk prediction, psychosis forecasting, and treatment selection in psychiatric care, including their reported performance, validation, and clinical limitations.
  • Examine the current regulatory, ethical, and medicolegal considerations associated with AI implementation in mental health care, including approaches to adverse event monitoring and evolving liability considerations.
  • Compare examples of AI applications with reported positive clinical outcomes and those associated with implementation challenges or adverse outcomes to identify design and implementation principles that may support safe and effective use in psychiatric practice.
