- Describe the architecture and functional roles of key components within the central respiratory control network, including pre‑Bötzinger complex, pre‑inspiratory neurons, and modulatory pathways.
- Analyze how elevations in CO₂ (hypercapnic drive) modify neural activity and network dynamics involved in respiratory rhythm generation and clinical ventilation responses.
- Evaluate the mechanisms by which sedatives and opioids alter respiratory network function and identify strategies to mitigate rhythm disruption and respiratory depression risk.
