Learning objectives: 

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Diagnose hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) at all stages including initial care or stabilization and referral. Review HS diagnosis in multiple stages and in multiple skin tones.
  • Understand the basic differential for HS. Review differential including infectious abscess, epidermal inclusion cyst, cutaneous Crohns, etc.
  • Prescribe single and combination treatments for HS patients for maintenance or flare care. Review initial management for mild to moderate HS including topicals, systemics, hormonal therapy. For specialists or ER/urgent care, will review flare treatment options and appropriate referral pathways.
  • Support HS patients with empathic and appropriate care. HS patients often suffer from delayed diagnosis, lack of care, stigma, increased mental health comorbidities. We will discuss empathic and appropriate care for HS patients to ensure high quality care for HS patients.
