Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
- Compare available incretin-based therapies (GLP-1 receptor agonists and dual GLP-1/GIP agonists) based on FDA-approved indications, efficacy, and cardiometabolic benefits.
- Summarize primary literature demonstrating the efficacy of incretin-based therapies in the management of type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, metabolic dysfunction–associated steatohepatitis (MASH), and obstructive sleep apnea.
- Select the most appropriate incretin-based therapy for a given patient based on treatment goals, comorbidities, contraindications, and patient-specific factors. Differentiating factors between available incretin-based therapies will be summarized, helping prescribers choose the best agent for their patient.
- Develop monitoring plans and patient counseling strategies to mitigate risk of side effects. Contraindications and precautions with incretin-based therapies will be reviewed, including appropriate monitoring and patient counseling points that can help minimize the risk of side effects.
