2013/2014 Medical College of Wisconsin Leadership Academy - Session Five & Six
MCW has faculty members that hold dual roles within the organization. They hold academic appointments and administrative appointments. Our faculty members are well trained scientists and physicians. However, many of them lack the formal business training required to succeed in their leadership positions. There is a lack of knowledge, competence, and performance for emerging faculty leaders for them to take the next step in their career, lead others and keep MCW a strong and thriving organization. We want to give these individuals training in areas which are not always a focus of their degrees, namely business management topics. The goal is to provide these faculty members with a course that will assist them with being more effective in managing costs, setting business priorities, meeting needs of patients, students, and the community.
Selected current and emerging faculty leaders at MCW.
1). Learn a wide variety of contemporary research-based tools and concepts to improve their individual, team and organizational effectiveness as managers and leaders.
2). Apply and test the concepts and tools they are learning in exercises and carefully selected , often customized, case studies within the individual modules of the program to build management and leadership skill proficiencies.
3). Work individually and in small groups to apply the most relevant and useful concepts and tools to advance and have a measurable positive impact on strategic initiatives in their own area of responsibility or initiatives established for the participants by MCW executive leadership.
4). Interact with UWM faculty, MCW subject-matter experts and each other to build individual networks of contacts and connections that can serve as resources for individual, team and organizational effectiveness in the future.
