Academic Half Day Conference - May
This educational activity is designed to help practicing dermatologists and APPs remain up to date on both common and uncommon dermatologic diseases, increasing their medical knowledge and competence in caring for these patients. There is not a specific dermatologic disease or topic which this activity is designed to address, as it is more open-ended and recurrent, allowing for the needs of the department to be met as they change year to year. It will additionally address the needs of maintaining professionalism and ethics in medicine, along with continuing practice improvement by presenting Quality Improvement projects.
Target Audience
- Physicians
- Physician Assistants
- Dermatology Residents, Medical Students
Learning Objectives
"It's eczena...it's molluscum...it's genodermatosis (and other interesting pediatric cases)"
1. Recognize key clinical features of common and high-yield genodermatoses encountered in pediatric dermatology, including distinguishing cutaneous clues that suggest an underlying systemic or syndromic diagnosis.
2. Develop a structured approach to the evaluation of pediatric patients with suspected genetic or atypical dermatologic conditions, incorporating history, morphology, distribution, and appropriate use of diagnostic tools such as biopsy and genetic testing.
3. Apply diagnostic reasoning to complex or unusual pediatric dermatology cases in order to generate appropriate differential diagnoses, guide management decisions, and identify when multidisciplinary care or referral is indicated.
"Hype or Help?: Evaluating Cannabinoids in Skin Disease"
1. Understand the pathogenesis of cannabinoids in the skin and implications for dermatologic diseases.
2. Understand clinical applications of cannabinoids in dermatology.
3. Evaluate limitations of current evidence and future directions.
"Dermatology Through Time: Lessons from Historic Treatments"
1. Illustrate how far modern dermatology has come.
2. Highlight dangers of past practices and importance of evidence-based care.
3. Spark discussion on innovation vs. safety.
