Managers do not used structured problem solving with their frontline staff when working on daily operational issues. This leads to managers doing most of the problem solving in the operational environment. Consequences of this solving problems slower and not having all team members work to the top of their job description.
 
Structure (scientific) Problem solving is a critical skill set that directors, managers and front line workers need to know to achieve goals and optimize quality of care. This allows the team members to function at the top of their capabilities. It also helps develop leaders within the ranks of the front line worker.
 
We want to change ‘thinking’ by workers. We want train workers/managers/directors that if you have problem, there is a structure reliable process to solve problems.
 
Teachers through active listening will be able to observe the structured scientific thinking in their dialogue with the personnel they are coaching. We will develop a tool to measure competency. It will be founded in observation of the coaching interaction between the manager and the front line worker. University of Michigan may even have a tool to use which we would adopt
