This grand rounds is designed to disseminate advancing practice of EMS so that physicians can be better prepared to work within an EMS System. ABEM defines EMS as a subspecialty; grand rounds will allow maintenance of certification. EMS is also a subspecialty of any American Board of Medical Specialties graduate. This allows any physical to get continuing education that applies to any of these specialties.
We are the only core group of academic faculty in Southeastern Wisconsin that is positioned to deliver this type of continuing education in this region. The Institute of Medicine outlines the need for better trained physicians in the EMS roles. Many communities do not have the privilege of having board certified EMS physicians so this continuing education helps to fill that gap.
