At the conclusion of this activity, I will be able to:
- Why are platelets like immune cells
- How do platelets and immune cells interact
- Understand the link between and division of haemostasis and host defence
- Appreciate the critical role of IgG in mediating platelet activation in response to both gram negative and gram positive bacteria
- Identify the key platelet receptors involved in triggering activation following interaction with gram negative and gram positive bacteria
- Understand the importance of using fluid shear in studying the interactions between platelets and bacteria
