     Rose Ch. 16.
     Smalley et. al., Ch. 19

     Participants select an additional chapter based on a population of interest to them: (Rose, Chaps. 8-10; Smalley et al., Chaps 5-17)

GoogleMap entry - participants identify and  add an annotated entry to the class map that describes a local organization or resource related to the population described in the textbook chapter they select.

Learning Objectives

  • Review the need to investigate rather than just acknowledge intersectionalities, and to modify health care practices accordingly.
  • Describe how the role of identity – e.g., racial/ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, geographic, etc. – in developing, maintaining, and intervening in health decision-making. 
  • Review ways in which social determinants of health relate to health disparities in the population described in the textbook chapter selected.
