The 27th Annual Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Medicine Symposium

Wauwatosa, WI US
March 19, 2015 to March 20, 2015

This educational activity is designed to facilitate dissemination of knowledge in the field of sports medicine to medical providers in the Midwest region.  This will be done through a combination of plenary talks, small group discussions, and workshops.  The content is determined based on feedback from past symposiums and discussion of the program planning committee, with speakers and presenters representing thought leaders on their respective topics.Sports medicine providers need to be aware of the multitude of issues that pervade the field.  With ever-evolving sports science techniques, research, and clinical applications, sports medicine providers are looked upon for answers about imaging techniques, appropriate treatment plans, and guidance on return to play decisions amongst the plethora of other topics posed by patients, athletes, administrators, and the general public.  Current practice deficiencies and limitations were identified from the target audience, the program planning committee’s judgment of the learners’ needs, and from discussions with leaders in the field.  This meeting will update sports medicine physicians on extremity injuries and prevention, investigate current controversies in the field, focus on aspects of the highlighted fields of concussions, knee and back injuries and concepts in rehabilitation from sports injuries.  Workshops will also be included during the meeting to create small group environments to facilitate learning faculty development, sideline coverage, and various sports medicine topics.
