The 2017 Neurofibromatosis Conference
The neurofibromatoses are complex multi-system disorders that require lifelong surveillance and expert management and holistic care from a team of dedicated multi-disciplinary experts. There is an increased risk of benign and malignant tumor formation and many complications cause significant clinical and psychological morbidity.
Currently there are different approaches to medical management of these conditions and prospective natural history studies are required. The advent of novel therapy requires standardized neurological, imaging and quality of life outcome measures.
Patients have expressed having difficulties with access to care of physicians familiar with the treatment of this complicated rare disease. The conference attracts more medical professionals to serve this unmet need. It also allows the newest research and clinical practices to be disseminated.
