Together for Children 2019

Elkhart Lake, WI US
April 9, 2019 to April 11, 2019

Participants in the 2019 conference will engage in sessions to increase awareness and education levels regarding child abuse and neglect issues as well as ongoing prevention and treatment efforts. These sessions, presented by field experts, can be utilized to inform future programming and work towards the reduction of child abuse and neglect across communities. “Randy & Me: A Prosecutor’s Story of his Childhood Sexual Abuse” will be presented as the day one keynote for the conference; during this session, participants will learn about the lessons learned by Kevin Mulcahy, from his experience as both a victim and a long-time prosecutor of child exploitation cases. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions RE: the impact the abuse had on himself, as a victim, and others he has seen in his work.

A full-day seminar will be held on April 9, “Multidisciplinary team response to suspected maltreatment cases – lessons learned” to look at case studies, review and discuss how the response of each role impacted the case and the child

Various workshops will be offered throughout the conference; these include but are not limited to choking is strangulation; female sex offenders; youth suicide prevention programs; sentinel injuries; school based mental health clinics, youth with problematic sexualized behavior; drug testing in kids and drug endangered children.

Target Audience

Physicians, nurses, social workers, law enforcement, and prevention staff

Learning Objectives

The purpose is to improve prevention, treatment, investigation and prosecution of child abuse and neglect by providing knowledge and skills to address emerging issues, research questions and public policy changes in child welfare and child protection.

Given that services for victims of child abuse are often offered by different agencies, the participant will gain a better understanding of multidisciplinary approaches to identify and intervene in child maltreatment cases.
