Mental Health in the Pediatric Medical Home
CPCP’s mission is to improve mental health care for children in the state of Wisconsin by establishing consultative support from child psychiatrists, child psychologists and social workers. Through education and consultation, primary care providers are able to offer timely and quality mental health care to children with mild to moderate mental and behavioral health concerns. This CE activity provides an educational opportunity for primary care providers to learn more about the treatment of mental health issues when working with their youth population. Often times primary care physicians are not trained to treat mental illness. In early 2016 CPCP and WIAAP surveyed primary care and pediatric clinics including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to obtain feedback on their educational needs. The feedback was incorporated into the design of this conference to support providers treating mental health issues in their daily practice. CPCP does offer an online education option in which enrolled providers can view modules related to topics identified for this conference but it’s advantageous to offer educational opportunities through various means in order to engage all learner types.

Learning Objectives
Increase primary care clinicians (PCPs) capacity to support behavioral health needs of children, adolescents, and their families in their care. Support PCP’s to assist in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment - including psychopharmacology - and management of children and adolescents with mental health problems. Education for PCPs is viewed as critical towards improving care providers’ knowledge and efficacy in providing front-line mental health care to children and adolescents. Educational sessions will be evaluated for effectiveness based off of online evaluations after the conference and post examination for acquiring continual education credits.
