Faculty Development Conference
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Faculty Development Conference is a one-day educational activity designed to enhance faculty skills in teaching, feedback, professionalism, and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in medical education. This conference addresses identified gaps in faculty development related to inconsistent feedback practices, limited formal training in educational methods, and emerging challenges and opportunities associated with AI in academic settings. Through expert-led sessions and practical examples, participants will gain strategies to promote psychological safety, reinforce professional behaviors, deliver effective “on-the-spot” teaching, and appropriately integrate AI tools into teaching, assessment, and curriculum design to improve educational effectiveness and learner outcomes.

- 3.0 APA CE Credits available for attending this session (1:00PM - 4:15PM)
- APA CE credit is calculated based on one credit per 60 minutes of instructional time, excluding breaks.

Cultivating Culture through Everyday Behavior

Dr. Songco will examine how intentional, everyday behaviors can be aligned with shared values to foster professionalism, psychological safety, and a culture of caring in academic and clinical settings. Drawing on organizational and health psychology research, participants will gain practical tools to intentionally design and sustain positive workplace culture.
Don’t Let the Machine Do ALL the Thinking: Clinical Reasoning for AI-Natives

Dr. Hayes will discuss limited faculty exposure to the use of artificial intelligence in academia by featuring expert-led discussion and real-world examples of AI applications in medical education and graduate medical education. Participants will gain practical insight into appropriate, effective uses of AI to support teaching, assessment, and curriculum design.
Teaching on the Fly and Loving It: Giving Feedback and One Minute Preceptor

Dr. Pheister will address faculty-identified gaps in providing timely and constructive feedback by introducing practical tools for delivering objective, effective feedback in busy clinical and academic settings. Participants will learn strategies to transform feedback into a positive, learner-centered experience that supports trainee development and promotes high-quality patient care.
