The APP Education Series offers diverse topics from clinical-based knowledge, pharmacological updates, professional development, and leadership skills targeted to the APP population.

Learning objectives: 

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Recall the antimicrobial spectrum of activity of commonly used antibiotics
  • De-escalate an antibiotic regimen when given the results of a culture and susceptibility report
  • Given a medication list, identify clinically significant drug-drug interactions with antimicrobial therapy. Will review interactions between antimicrobials and other medications a patient may be taking.
  • Review the mechanisms behind clinically significant drug interactions. Review the pharmacokinetic or pharmacodynamic mechanism that causes the medications to interact with each other in the provided examples
  • Identify management strategies for a patient with an antimicrobial drug-drug interaction. Will review if different interactions can be monitored safely or are a completely contraindicated combination.
