Program Description:

This program alternates monthly between the Human Research Professional’s Meeting (HRPM) and the IRB Lunch & Learn. These educational opportunities are designed to provide new or updated  information regarding human research protections and encourage researchers to consider the information being presented in the context of his/her research practice.

Target audience:

Physicians
Psychologists
Allied Health Care Professionals
Researchers

Learning objectives:
  • Learners will not only be presented with varying policies at the institutional, state, and federal levels, but the application of these policies to their specific work will also be discussed. Learners are expected to apply this knowledge to their engagement in human subject research and to educate their peers. Through both internal and external audits, as well as the quality of submissions submitted to the HRPP, it will be determined whether or not the information provided to learners has been understood and appropriately applied.
  • The ethical foundations of human subject research will be discussed with learners in order to provide a rationale for the current regulations and institutional policy as well as to demonstrate acceptable conduct in human subject research. It is hoped that learners will apply these ethical standards to all human subject research in which they are engaged. Comprehension of the ethical standards will be assessed through routine audits and the number of reportable event submissions that demonstrate noncompliance.
  • Learners will be presented with a number of resources that assist in the conduction of ethical and compliant research practices. With this knowledge, learners will be enabled to expand upon their current practices and audit their own practices to ensure compliance with regulations and ethical standards. An appropriate understanding and implementation of this knowledge will be assessed through the review of research project content and conduct.
