Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Define different types of grief and impact on the healing process for grievers.
  • Review different types of grief and how it may affect the healing process for an individual based on characteristics of the type of grief experienced.
  • Introduce risk factors for developing "complicated grief".
  • Counsel patients on adaptive grief coping strategies and identify risk factors for developing complicated grief.
  • Develop coping strategies with grief and ones to avoid that could lead to poor health outcomes or complicated grief.
  • Foster a safe space for grievers to share their experiences in a non-judgmental environment.
  • Offer practical advice for providers when seeing patients who are in grief and helpful reminders to avoid judgement or oversharing
  • Identify different responses children may have to grief
  • Identify different developmental understandings of grief
