Alcohol Policy Seminar 2024
The 2024 Alcohol Policy Seminar (APS) is a training and networking opportunity for communities working to reduce excessive alcohol use, which is Wisconsin’s most persistent public health challenge. Alcohol-related problems continue to grow, including disease, injuries, domestic violence, underage drinking, and motor vehicle crashes.
The goals of APS for participants are to discuss and deepen their understanding of the alcohol policy environment and how policy can impact excessive alcohol use and strategize ways to reduce excessive alcohol use and its harms. The seminar focuses on upstream, and primary prevention, and supports policies and practices that reduce excessive alcohol use and its impact.
APS provides a networking hub for community members from many involved sectors, including local, regional, and national experts, and allows people who work in fields that impact public health to learn from each other.
Target Audience
Public Health officials, community coalitions, health care providers and law enforcement, State Agencies such as Department of Transportation, Department of Revenue, Department of Health Services and people interested in reducing excessive alcohol use.
Learning Objectives
Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
- Identify which strategies are evidenced-based to reduce excessive alcohol use in local communities
- Access data and information resources regarding alcohol-related diseases, including death & disability
- Access statewide data regarding the harm of excessive alcohol use, and use the information to share with decision-makers for shaping policy.
- Examine details in the State Council on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Council’s report called, “Moving Forward: Policies and Strategies to Prevent and Reduce Excessive Alcohol Use in Wisconsin” and work toward policies that be implemented in Wisconsin to reduce excessive alcohol use.
